Your Gateway to Preferential Tariff Rates
A Certificate of Origin (COO) is essential documentation for claiming reduced or zero tariff rates under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Without it, your goods may face higher duties—or worse, be held at customs.
We make COO certification fast, simple, and compliant.
Why Certificate of Origin Matters
Unlock FTA Benefits
New Zealand has free trade agreements with major markets worldwide. A properly certified COO is your proof that goods originated in New Zealand, unlocking preferential tariff treatment that can save your buyers thousands of dollars.
Required for Many Markets
Countries like China, ASEAN nations, and the EU require COOs for preferential duty rates. Even Australia may require a COO for certain products under CER to prove New Zealand origin.
Avoid Costly Delays
Without a COO (or with an incorrect one), customs may:
- Apply higher “Most Favored Nation” duty rates
- Hold your shipment pending verification
- Reject your claim for preferential treatment
- Require expensive retroactive documentation

Common Questions
Do I need a COO for every shipment?
Not always. It depends on your destination country and whether you’re claiming FTA benefits. Countries like China and many ASEAN nations require COOs for preferential tariffs. Australia may require it for certain products. We can advise based on your specific shipment.
What’s the difference between preferential and non-preferential COO?
A preferential COO is used to claim reduced tariff rates under an FTA. It must meet strict origin rules. A non-preferential COO simply declares where goods were made, without claiming any tariff benefits. Both types require Chamber certification.
How long does Chamber certification take?
Standard service is 2-3 business days. Same-day service is available for urgent shipments if you submit before 12pm NZT. We coordinate directly with the Chamber to expedite processing.
Can you handle retrospective COOs?
Yes, but with limitations. Some Chambers and countries accept COOs issued after shipment, but it must be within a certain timeframe (typically 30-60 days). Contact us immediately if you need a retrospective COO.
What if my goods contain imported materials?
This is common. For FTA claims, goods must meet “rules of origin” which vary by agreement. Generally, substantial transformation in New Zealand is required. We can review your product composition and advise if it qualifies for preferential treatment.
